A book exchange project Between The Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts(canton province)and the Danish Design School ( copenhagen)

the danish students have handed their books in and we will send them to china in a few days

allan rand has been stretching the boundaries of book making, as evidenced by the gif file below. this little movie is part of his book bounce project.

the chinese students had a book binding workshop with prof. Lin Yu Jin head of the book making department.

below from the danish students recent meeting.

The project is to create books together between Chinese sand Danish students.
the project will be carried out by teachers and Professors at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and at the Danish Design School by Henrik Drescher and Wu Wing Yee.

Exhibitions of the combined collection of finished books will be held in both Denmark and China starting in fall 2007

Description
Project: create a hand made, hand bound book not store bought.

size: not bigger than a folded a-3 paper. can’t weigh more than 1 kg.
no offensive sexual political or racial content.

page count: between 12 spreads (24 pages) and 20 spreads (40 pages)

Content: illustrate using photos , drawings ,diagrams and so on. use typography or handwriting  or both. be creative.

Process: When creating the book. The students will leave an amount of space equal to what they themselves use empty, for their foreign counterparts to work on when the exchange takes place.
This can be in the form of an empty page (s) across from a treated page(s). Or a gate fold which is left empty for the other student or a pop-up section etc.
